Customer FAQs

When is the United and Edgewater transaction occurring?

On October 27, 2020, United Federal Credit Union (United) and Edgewater announced plans to strategically unite, subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals. Over the next few months, Edgewater and United will actively work through the approval and regulatory processes. While this is happening, as an Edgewater customer, you do not need to take any action. You may continue accessing your Edgewater accounts exactly as you do today.

Why did Edgewater and United decide to take this action?

This is a perfect time to unite:

  • Both Edgewater and United are at the top of their games. Each of our organizations is fiscally healthy. This union will allow us to make an even broader and stronger impact on your financial well-being, the well-being of your family, your business and your community.
  • As two, highly-respected local businesses, we share the same core values and have similar cultures. Our teams understand what it means to take care of you and how to exceed your expectations for service.
  • Rather than compete for local customers/Members, employees and resources, it makes more sense to combine our strengths and truly become the most dynamic, financial force in our local communities. Together, we can do more
  • When we become one organization, you will have access to more expertise, products, services and membership perks.

As two community-minded financial icons, we each bring decades of experience of doing what’s right for our friends and neighbors in Southwest Michigan. We are both strongly committed to local decision making, local investment and local involvement. This is a partnership of minds and ideas, of ideals and values, of resources, talent and community spirit. This is real, local progress.

Does this mean I will become a member of a credit union?

Pending a shareholder vote and regulatory approval, as an Edgewater customer, you will be eligible to become a Member/owner of United, a financial cooperative committed to providing financial solutions and tools to its Members. You can expect clear information on this process ahead of any action needed.

What will happen to Edgewater branches?

Following approval and regulatory processes, all of Edgewater’s branches will remain open and continue to be the pillars they are today in their communities, with the exception of one. Due to its close proximity to United’s Buchanan branch, Edgewater’s Buchanan branch and its employees will be consolidated into the United branch.

Am I able to use a United branch?

Not yet. While we await the required approvals, you can continue visiting your favorite Edgewater branches or accessing your accounts through Edgewater online banking. You will receive clear and frequent updates as we move through the process. This will be a frictionless, well-communicated transition with a focus on keeping you fully informed.

How will I access my Edgewater accounts and money?

As we work through the approval process, you will continue to access your accounts and money exactly the same way you do today. Following receipt of the appropriate approvals, we will provide information on how your account will transfer to United. You will get clear and frequent updates every step of the way.

How will I access my online banking account or mobile app?

While we work through the approval process, you will access your Edgewater online banking account and mobile app exactly the same way as you do today. When the approvals are received, we will explain how your Edgewater account will transfer to United. Our clear and frequent updates will help you anticipate the next steps as we move through this process.

Will my Edgewater checking account and routing numbers change? What do I do with the checks that I have?

You can continue using your Edgewater checking account and routing numbers, as well as your checks, while we await the required shareholder and regulatory approvals. Pending these approvals, you will receive all the information you need about any changes to your account well in advance. We will keep you up to date as we work through the approval processes.

I have accounts at both Edgewater and United. Do I need to do anything differently with them?

Not right now. During the approval process, you will continue to access your Edgewater and United accounts exactly as you do today. For example, if you have debit cards for both your Edgewater and United accounts, those debit cards will continue to access the separate accounts as they do now. When the time comes for Edgewater accounts to be transferred to United, you will receive all of the information you need to smoothly and confidently make the transition.

Will my rates change on my current Edgewater accounts because of this transaction?

No, we don’t expect a negative impact on the rates for your accounts because of the union with United. The reason we’re taking action to unite Edgewater and United’s resources is to provide you with access to more expertise, products, services and membership perks!

I’m an Edgewater business customer. Will I continue to work with the same Commercial Lending Officer?

Yes. You can expect to maintain the same local relationship with your Edgewater Commercial Lending Officer that you have come to value and trust.

Is Edgewater's president and CEO retiring?

No. Retaining Edgewater’s president and CEO Rick Dyer is vital to the success of our new partnership. Rick will take a leadership and decision-making role within United after the approvals are complete. You can expect him to continue being as actively involved in the community as he is now.

Do I have to do anything right now?

Nope. Throughout this process, we will keep you well-informed ahead of any changes to the way you access or use your Edgewater accounts. We will also update you about the additional products, services and perks that will come with a United membership.
